Led cube shield 4x4x4 for arduino

I have recently acquired a led cube shield 4 x4 x4 for the arduino.
I have looked at the guideline instructions and pcb board and components.
My question is why are there no limiting resistors included in the kit to protect LEDs. I see no reference to these resisters. Please advise why I don't need any resistors.

The LEDs are drived by IOs, and one IO drives more than one LED.

 

The LED cube is a dynamic scanning processing. Don't worry about the LED would be burned out.
