Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and also new to Raspberry Pi. As a student I have to control a samsung airconditioning with different protocols. The samsung airco can be programmed through a module that works with RS485 signals. I thought I could program this samsung airconditioning with the Raspberry Pi. So I bought the RS485 shield from LinkSprite. Because i'm all new to this (I just learned to program in python) I was wondering if someone could help me figure out how i can receive and transmit signals to this module.

I have to talk to the airco through this module:

Do I have to sniff the signals from the airco to know what I can send to program it correctly? I figured I could just connect the A and B connections. But I have no idea how to receive or transmit a signal. I'd appreciate it greatly if someone could help, because my teachers can't :P they don't know anything about the raspberry pi...
